'Dukes' cancellation reverse discrimination

I read with interest the article "Pops tells 'Dukes' they're not welcome for Cincinnati show" (March 17) concerning the cancellation of the July 14 program with John Schneider and Tom Wopat by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. These two fine gentlemen were scheduled to appear in our city on that date.
Instead the program has been canceled due to lack of knowledge by some people who have decided that the TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard" is a racist show. The theme of "The Dukes of Hazzard" is brotherhood, not the lack thereof. The Duke family fights the system and is always on the side of the oppressed, no matter their race, nationality, religion, etc.
Some say the Confederate flag is a racist symbol. Those people need to learn the history of our great country. The Confederate flag is a battle flag.
It is not a racist flag. Our country would be a much better place to live if everyone treated each other with the same respect that Bo and Luke Duke always had for others. This is a classic example of reverse discrimination.
TREAT DRUGS AS ADDICTION, NOT CRIME Nowadays the medical community pretty much agrees that addiction is a disease. It doesn't much matter what the thing you are addicted to is, just that a person is addicted to it - drugs, alcohol, smoking, TV, food, sex or chocolate. They all agree that prohibition doesn't cure addiction; it only exacerbates the problem.
The drug war is the government's chosen approach to curing addiction.Since prohibition cannot cure prohibition, then why do we continue this course of action? We could easily tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. With hard drugs, you could make them available to addicts through their doctor with the provision that the doctor have them in rehab within a year of them registering with him.
If a person is loaded in public - rehab. If they are loaded and do a crime - rehab and pay for your crime.End of drug war! In his guest column "Abortion protests will continue" (March 17), the Rev.
Brendan M.Dardis vows to continue his anti-abortion protests, and that is his right.I don't believe, however, that he has a right to display offensive, disturbing, gruesome images.
I am fervently opposed to the sexual exploitation of children. Is it my right, as a legitimate form of protest, to display life-size color blow-ups of disturbing and sickening pornographic images of children to prove my point? The real question is: Why have these people been treated with kid gloves? Clearly they disturb the peace, affect property values and hurt business in any neighborhood they choose to target. So, the reverend from St.
Pius X Chapel in Northside encourages his flock in his guest column "Abortion protests will continue" (March 17) to increase the protest of the Clifton women's center using graphic pictures of aborted babies. He vows to continue the protest until the center closes while not caring how it affects adjacent businesses or the sensibilities of innocent individuals. How about protesters armed with graphic pictures of priests abusing children camping out in front of St.
Pius church? Problem priests and pedophile preachers have abused thousands of children with "mental abortion" for years without recourse.I know that it's March Madness, and I would hope that the NCAA Tournament would be on the front page of the Sports section along with a few other pages inside; however, I still would like to see more about a certain professional hockey team, the Cyclones.Quietly, at least in this city, the Cyclones have taken the East Coast Hockey League by storm in their first year back at U.S.
Bank Arena. They are in first place and have been there since December. This team will be in the playoffs in a few weeks, yet they have the worst attendance in the league.
They got a late start in marketing the team for this season, but it's not too late to get on the bandwagon and get more of a home ice advantage as they push their way to and through the playoffs. This is my plea for a more visible, and possibly bigger, article for this team. They have worked hard this season and deserve some recognition.
