   I live in Paris with my two children.And every morning, we have to constantly watch our feet on the way to school.

Sidewalks are literally crowded with dog poop.I wish I were exaggerating, but I'm not.I can't remember how many times we have bumped into lamp-posts.

There are laws, there are poop bags, but most dog owners seem to ignore them.They don't think they will ever be fined for not picking up their dog's poop, and most of the time, they are unfortunately right.3rd and 4th graders of an elementary school in Honfleur, France were so tired of having to clean their shoes before going to class every morning that they have made huge signs and put them in front of the school to protest and encourage dog owners to pick up their dog's excrements.

They have also written letters to the mayor to get permission to put more signs in town.1.Wasn't there an artist in Paris a few years back who went around sticking little French flags into the turds, drawing a chalk circle round them and taking a photograph? Evidently he didn't get his message across.

:o( 2.At one time there was a "poop artist" in Portland, OR who would make sculptures out of poop too - so you'd come round a corner and see David made of poop.Ugh.

Can those kids come protest in my hometown too? That is the same reason I hated dogs as a kid...3.I like NYC's signs: "If you aren't responsible enough to pick up after your dog, you're not responsible enough to own a dog." Sadly, we still have quite a few people that aren't responsible enough to own a dog.

Perhaps not as many as are in Paris, but quite a few.And even more sadly, there are random bouts of people that put down poisoned food with the hopes of hurting pets- not realizing or caring that the percentage of dogs that have owners that don't pick up after them- is tiny.
